It’s nothing new to use PayPal to pay for Google Pay products. Although the two firms announced their relationship some year ago, they just agreed to prolong it. As a result, you may link your PayPal account to Google Pay on Android to use it as a payment option while using Google’s digital wallet platform. It’s also compatible with Google services, including the Play Store, Gmail, YouTube, and the Google Store.

How to include PayPal as a payment option

PayPal made a considerable change: adding PayPal as a payment method to any Google service will make it a payment method for all Google services, including Google Pay, YouTube, Gmail, and Google Store. You may link your PayPal account to Google Pay in a few different ways. On Android, the Google Pay mobile app makes the most sense. The Google Pay web app is your best option on iOS. However, you can link PayPal to Google Pay on Android or iOS and use it to pay for things online everywhere Google Pay is accepted.

Linking Paypal to Google Pay (US)

Follow the steps to link your Google Pay account with Paypal:

  • Open the Google Pay app on your phone.
  • Tap the card button at the top.
  • Add a payment method by tapping Add a payment method. You may need to swipe all the way left to access this option.
  • Press the PayPal button.
  • Follow the on-screen steps to link your PayPal account.

What information is shared with PayPal, and how it is used

Google and PayPal share information when you use PayPal as a payment option.

Google shares the following pieces of information with PayPal:

  • Your Name
  • Email
  • Phone Number
  • IP Address
  • Model identifier
  • OS and network operator
  • Profile image
  • Location
  • Snapshot at the time of the setup
  • Google Account signals, including account age and session length

PayPal shares the following with Google:

When you make a Google Pay payment using PayPal, your name, billing address, phone number, account type, and account activity are all shared.

PayPal shares the following information with Google when you link:

  • Name
  • Country

Your PayPal balance is instantly replenished.

When your PayPal balance runs out, it is replenished using funds from a connected debit card or bank account. The default amount is USD 20.00; however, you have the option of changing it. If your purchase exceeds your available amount, your PayPal balance is refilled as needed to meet the entire cost of your transaction.

How can you remove a Paypal Account from Google Pay (US)?

  • Open the Google Pay app on your phone.
  • Tap the card button Credit card at the top of the screen.
  • Swipe left until your PayPal account appears.
  • Go to your PayPal account and tap it.
  • Tap More More in the top right corner, then Remove the payment method.

PayPal and Google Pay have limitations.

For the time being, PayPal can only be used in Google Pay, where PayPal is accepted as a payment method. So while you may use your Google Pay balance, PayPal is still not an option. Put another way, it will take time for the integration to be smooth. In addition, if your PayPal balance is insufficient to complete a transaction, the top-up amount you choose will be instantly transferred to your PayPal balance. As a result, if you purchase anything for $1.04 but only have $1.00 in your PayPal account, you will receive your average top-up amount – at least $10 – from PayPal, thereby leaving you with at least $9.96. Fortunately, the money may be withdrawn back into a bank account if necessary.
